Parking Garage Facade P22a at the Cologne Exhibition Centre

We congratulate the winner in the “Architizer + Facades” category:
The objective was to design a facade for the parking garage that not only seems light and transparent, but also surrounds the S-shaped curved structure with a poetic-organic shell that gives it a light plasticity. The uniformly designed facade does not seem ornamental – instead, it is designed like a big organic structure that gives the impression that it breathes.

The P22a parking garage (design: schultearchitekten, Cologne) at the Cologne Trade Fair is located at the Zoobrücke bridge and offers 3,250 parking spaces on 5 levels. Our task, on behalf of Koelnmesse GmbH (Trade Fair Cologne) and the city of Cologne, was to design an innovative and emblematic facade for the existing S-shaped curved plan.

To carry out this task, roughly 3,000 laser-cut panels with edge reinforcement were manufactured from perforated metal. The gill-like gaps and the perforations of the panels themselves ensure the natural throughflow of air needed in the parking garage and also provide sufficient natural lighting of its interior. The overlapping metal panels create interesting geometric patterns that evoke a sensuous, emblematic symbolism, especially at night. IQ Real Estate was responsible for the project management.

Alte Kämmerei Düsseldorf

In an investor competition, Art-Invest Real Estate Funds GmbH acquired the heritable building right in the Alte Kämmerei property located at Marktplatz 5-6 in Düsseldorf. Art-Invest intends to refurbish the listed property and reposition it in the marketplace  as office building with retail outlets and catering establishments on the ground floor and an event hall in the inner courtyard.

The administration building was constructed in 1957 as a perimeter development with a full basement and arcades along Marktstraße and Rheinstraße and is now in need of refurbishment. Since the city treasury and the tax office moved out in 2014, the office levels have been vacant, while the shops are still being used. The entire building including the interior fit-out was listed as a historic monument in 1987, and the area in which it is located is subject to a preservation statute.

SOP Architekten were commissioned with the planning & design and IQ Real Estate GmbH will serve as project manager.

Groundbreaking for Eclipse

The traditional groundbreaking for the Eclipse project was celebrated today in the presence of all parties involved.

die developer Projektentwicklung GmbH is realizing the new build of a 60 m high office building on Kennedydamm in Düsseldorf in a joint venture with the Oman sovereign wealth fund.

In late 2022, the high-rise building with 16 floors offering about 27,000 m² of office space is expected to be handed over to the main user PwC.

The architectural design is created by the architecture firms HPP (Düsseldorf) and UNStudio (Amsterdam).

IQ Real Estate is responsible for the project management.

Topping-out ceremony for the Urban Soul project

On 31 October, the topping-out ceremony was held for building units 1 and 2 of the Urban Soul project in Bonn. The project comprises an ensemble of three building units offering a total gross floor area of 40,000 m² for retail, hotel, catering, office, parking and residential uses. It replaces the notorious “Bonner Loch”, a sunken square with stairs leading down into the underground part of the railway station. The motto of the ceremony, which was also attended by the city’s Lord Mayor, was “Bonn shines, Urban Soul radiates”. Completion is planned for 2021.
